L'arrondissement de Kaiserslautern Département du Mont Tonnerre; pour
servir à l'inscription des Noms du famille des Juifs dans la Mairie de
Doernbach, suivent le Décret impérial du 20 Juillet dernier. Fait à
Kaisers Lautern le Dix Janvier 1809. This register containing two sheets has been numbered and initialed by us, the undersigned President of the Lower Court of the district of Kaiserslautern, Department of Mont-Tonnerre; to serve for the registration of Jewish family names in the City of Doernbach, following the Imperial decree on the 20th of last July. L'an mil huit cent neuf le douze Janvier à midi pardevant nous Jaqués Klein Maire et officier de le état civil de la Mairie de Doernbach, kanton de Rokenhausen, Département du Monttonnerre est comparee Isaac Nathan revendeur agé de cinquante ans demeurant à Doernbach, lequel nous a déclaré qu'il a changé son nom et accepté en nom de famille celui de Beker, et qu'il Le veut nominer Isaac Beker, que deplies il veut donnes à son fils a nomme Loew, le nom de Lion Beker, et à la femme Hannée Zipper le nom de Hanne, qu'eu autre la fille nommé Githel le veut nommes Judith. De quoi avec dressé le présent acte, et lecture donné il a déclaré savoir pas signes. 1. On January 12, 1809, at noon, before us Jaqués Klein Mayor and officer of the civil status of the City of Doernbach, kanton of Rockenhausen, Department Mont-Tonnerre, Isaac Nathan, 50 year old dealer, residing at Doernbach, changed his name, accepted the name of Beker, becoming Isaac Beker, and gave his son Loew the name of Lion Beker, his wife Hannée Zipper the name Hanne, and his daughter Githel the name Judith. This record was drawn up and read, he did not know how to sign. 2. L'an mil huit cent neuf le treize Janvier à midi pardevant nous sousigné Maire de Doernbach est comparee Hirsch Levi journalier demeurant à Doernbach, le quel nous a déclaré, qu'il a changé son nom eu celui de David Levi et celui de la femme Fradchen en celui de Hanne. Lecture doucé il déclaré ne savoir signer. 2. On January 13, 1809, at noon, before us, the undersigned Mayor of Doernbach, Hirsch Levi, day-laborer residing at Doernbach, changed his name to David Levi, and that of his wife Fradchen to Hanne. On January 13, 1809, at noon, before us, the undersigned Mayor, Joseph Mendle, dealer, changed his name to Joseph Jacob, and his wife Hanne to her former name Hindel. L'an mil huit cent neuf le treize Janvier à midi pardevant nous Jaques Klein Maire et officier de l'état civil de la Mairie de Doernbach sont comparees Raphael Gabriel et Isaac Gabriel les deux revendeurs demeurant à Doernbach, et nous ont déclaré, quils ont changé leur noms, et que Raphael Gabriel a choisé pour lui celui le Raphael Beker, et Isaac Gabriel celui de Isaac Beker. Lecture donneé il ont déclaré en savoir signer. 4. On January 13, 1809, at noon, before us, Jaques Klein, Mayor and officer of civil status of the City of Doernbach, Raphael Gabriel and Isaac Gabriel, both resellers residing at Doernbach, told us that they have changed their names, Raphael Gabriel choosing for himself the name of Raphael Beker, and Isaac Gabriel that of Isaac Beker. The record was read, they did not know how to sign. 1. The surname adoption record (as seen above) lists the names in reverse: Joseph Mendlé becomes Joseph Jacob. However, multiple records make clear that his name was, in fact, Jacob Joseph (a patronymic name, his father being Joseph Isaac).
