STRAUS
Jonas STRAUS had at least two sons, Maier and Menke, in Geroda,
Bavaria. Two children of one of them, likely brothers, were: Gerson (1817) and Reuben (1819). The name
is also found as STRAUSS.
- Gerson STRAUS, a butcher, immigrated to America in
1839 and
settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He married Fratel "Fanny" ROSKOPF from
Gersfeld, daughter of Moses and Schenla, in Cleveland in 1841 and
had children: Sarah (1844), Abraham (1846), Julius (1848), and Amelia
(1849). Fanny and Gerson both died in 1897.
- Amelia STRAUSS married Levi HEXTER about 1872 and had
four children
including Stella L. (1879) and Leroy N. (1881). She died in Cleveland
in 1921.
- Reuben STRAUS immigrated to America in 1839 and settled in
Cleveland. He married Clara HELLER and had children: Sarah (1846),
Amelia (1851), Lewis (1852), Lehman (1856), Katie (1858), and Bettie
(1861). He died in Cleveland in 1898.
Nathan STRAUS married MANNHEIMER and had children: Jakob
(1812).

STRAUS married Mascha SCHONBERG, daughter of Moses and Rachel nee
HIRSCH, in Gersfeld in 1838 and had children: Klara (1839), Rosalie
(1841), Nathan (1843), Fanni (1845), Abraham (1847)
