1. The Familiant record of Herz Benedict lists
his parents in
Lichtenstadt lists his parents as Simon and
Adelheit and that he was married in 1760 and 1779. The earlier
marriage appears to match well with a marriage permission
recorded in the Gubernium in 27 October 1758 between Hertzl
Lobositz, Lichtenstadt Schutzjuden
Jew), and Rösel from Königswart. From Herz's death record in
Lichtenstadt in 1812 at the age of 88, he was born about
1724 census of Lichtenstadt lists Simon
Pinckes from Lobositz, 21 years old, who settled in Lichtenstadt in
1722 and was
married to Edel, daughter of Rabbi Salomon Bondi. As for tracing
the paternal line farther back, the only head of family with the
name Pinckes in the 1724 census of
Lobositz is Pinkas Joachim. At this time, however, it is not yet
known whether he was of the right age to be Simon Pinckes'
This surname is often spelled "Benedikt" (with a "k" rather than a "c")
in Bohemian records. However, the oldest known records for both of
these families in which the surname is listed (the 1779 marriage
permission for Herz Benedict and the 1793 census record for Jacob
Benedict) list the surname with the spelling "Benedict". The two spellings appear to be interchangeable.
3. It is unknown if there was a connection
between Jacob Benedict and Simon Pinckes (described in connection with
Herz Benedict). Birth
records of Jakob's grandchildren (children of Gerschmann
"Gerson" Benedikt and Wilhemina), Peppi Benedikt (1834) and
(1839), list Gerson's mother
as Judith nee Lederer from Lichtenstadt house No. 20. In the Familiant
records, Wolf Lederer, son of Joachim and Antonia Moises, is
house No. 20. With an estimated birth year of 1750 (he died in 1827 at
the age of 77), he appears to be of the same generation as Judith and
was likely her brother. Furthermore, the only other Lederer
the Familiant records, Eliacim Lederer, is also listed with
parent names, had an estimated birth year of 1747 (died in 1804 at age
57), and so was likely another sibling.
